Can you keep your number with a travel eSIM?
Yes, on a compatible dual-SIM phone you can add a travel data line while keeping your existing home service. Adding a separate travel plan does not require moving your number to it. Receiving calls or carrier texts still depends on your home line, its roaming support and charges. Keep the home service valid, and decide which line handles data before departure.
Separate your number from your data connection
| Service | What it needs | Check before flying |
|---|---|---|
| Web and app data | Selected travel data line | Allowance and coverage |
| Home-number SMS or calls | Home line enabled with suitable carrier service | Roaming availability and fees |
| Bank verification | A supported delivery method and access to the registered number | Bank acceptance and a backup method |
| Access to the account and a working internet connection | Avoid changing the registered number merely to use travel data |
Set up separate lines on iPhone
- Add the separate travel profile and label both lines clearly.
- In Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data), select Travel for cellular data.
- Turn off Allow Cellular Data Switching if you want to prevent automatic switching to home-line data.
- Set the default voice line deliberately. If keeping Home active, check its roaming charges even when mobile data uses Travel.
- Ask the home carrier about incoming texts, answered calls, voicemail and Wi-Fi Calling before relying on any of them.

Will bank codes still arrive?
Do not assume a travel data package receives texts sent to your home number. Ask the home carrier whether your line can receive SMS at the destination, and ask the bank which verification methods it supports abroad. Set up an approved backup before travel. Turning the home line off prevents it from receiving carrier SMS until service is restored. A test before departure does not guarantee delivery in another country.
Can WhatsApp keep the original number?
Holafly describes retaining your WhatsApp number while using its Europe data connection. That describes app messaging, not incoming carrier SMS. Keep access to the registered number for any future account-verification request, and resolve destination-specific app access separately.

How to control roaming costs
Disabling data roaming on Home addresses home-line roaming data; calls, voicemail and other carrier services need their own fee check. If preventing all home-line roaming use matters more than receiving texts, turn Home off and arrange a verification alternative first. Android users should follow their device maker's dual-SIM menus.

Primary-source documentation, checked against the claims described below. Provider statements are not independent tests.

Supported iPhones allow separate lines for calls and data. iPhone 13 models and later support two active eSIMs, subject to regional hardware support. Stored profiles are different from active lines; one cellular data network is used at a time. Verify exact regional model.

Unlimited: 7 days USD 27.50; 15 days USD 51.50 in the USD table. Europe hotspot allowance: 1 GB per day. Fair-use slowdowns can apply. Page describes service starting at the destination when the eSIM is turned on. The selector displayed EUR while the explicit price table displayed USD; these figures use only that USD table. Exact network names, individual-country inclusion and numeric high-speed threshold remain unverified. Not a connectivity test.
